sold my skin to Tiffany’s

Tonight’s adventure with Carrie involved:

Me getting a better grade on the midterm (but i’m sure she’ll do better than me on the other two!); a bottle of wine; twilight; amazingly good experimental chili thanks to Britt; a second bottle of wine; a quote of hers I told Carrie I was going to write down but now cannot remember… and lots of mocking Twilight.

All around a stupendous evening. Thanks for hosting me, Carrie and Britt (even if it was unwilling on Britt’s part: Good luck on that midterm!)

My roommates are… glorious.

For those of you who don’t know, I live in student housing. My roommates are Emma and Liz, and they are 20 and 19, respectively. We get along OK, but sometimes I just have to hang my head in shame at the things that come outta their mouths. Below are just a few examples of their pure genius.

Liz (out of nowhere): “Jake.”
Emma:”Who’s Jake?”
Liz: “this kid Jacob that I know” (wow, really?)

Emma: “Well, if he doesn’t mean anything to you, you might as well have sex with him.”

Liz: “Let’s get some chink food and watch a movie!”

This might also be a good place to mention that Liz farts more often than I burp… at any and all times of day, anywhere in the room.

#inaug09

I watched today’s events on my laptop, on CNN.com, which was partnered with Facebook, and made watching it more interactive, I suppose. Realtime status updates from my friends? Oh joy. Oddly, though, we had CNN on in our room, but I preferred listening with my headphones. At least on the web version, Wolf Blitzer wasn’t talking during the “Air and Simple Gifts” performance.

I was particularly struck by this line of Obama’s address:

To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

Obama is such a powerful writer and orator, and that line just invokes such amazing imagery. I’m also quite excited about the new white house website. It has a BLOG! And you can follow the white house on Twitter? God Bless Obama for embracing technology.

Suite Francaise

“He wore the expression found on people who have died in an accident, in a matter of seconds, without having had time to be afraid or suffer. They would be reading a book or looking out of a car window, thinking about things, or making their way along a train to the restaurant car when, all of a sudden, there they were in hell.”
